Welcome back, Hype Squad!

Today, we have a very special guest, Searcy Kelly, a master esthetician, entrepreneur, wife, and mother of three. Searcy is not just an esthetician with over 20 years of experience in the med spa industry; she also co-hosts the podcast “Your Bestitician,” where she shares her wealth of knowledge on skincare.

Searcy Kelly has been immersed in the skincare industry since high school. Her journey started when her mom, a retired anesthesiologist, began working in aesthetic medicine. Searcy combined her business background with her passion for skincare and eventually became a master esthetician. She now runs a successful business with her mom, offering a range of skincare treatments and products.

The Evolution of Skincare Trends

Skincare has come a long way since the ’90s. With new technologies and products, it’s easier than ever to achieve healthy, glowing skin. Searcy shares that medical-grade skincare products are essential for maintaining great skin. These products may be pricier, but they form 80 percent of your skincare results. Consistency in your skincare routine is as crucial as regular exercise for those aiming for weight loss.

Popular Skincare Treatments

  1. Micro-needling
    • This treatment is popular due to its minimal downtime. It’s great for all skin types and works wonders on acne scars and textural abnormalities like large pores. There’s also radiofrequency micro-needling, which is more intense but offers even better results.
  2. Laser Treatments
    • Searcy mentions treatments like the Elite IQ laser and BBL (Broadband Light), which target pigmentation. These treatments help with issues like sunspots and hair removal, providing significant improvements over time.

Key Skincare Products

  • Retinol
    • This vitamin A derivative accelerates cell turnover, helping to keep skin luminous and smooth. It’s especially beneficial for those in their mid-20s and older.
  • Vitamin C
    • This powerhouse ingredient fights free radical damage from the environment, keeping the skin healthy and radiant.
  • High-Powered Hydrators
    • Ensuring your skin stays hydrated is crucial, and medical-grade hydrating products can make a big difference.

Skincare for Teenagers

Today’s teenagers are more aware than ever about skincare, thanks to social media and celebrity endorsements. However, Searcy points out that while it’s good to care for your skin, there’s no need for young teens to use potent products like retinol unless they have severe acne. Encouraging a balanced perspective on skincare is essential to avoid issues related to body image and self-worth.

The Impact of Social Media on Self-Perception

Filters and selfies can distort our perception of beauty. Charli shares how she helps young clients understand this by comparing real-life reflections to filtered selfies. She emphasizes that what we see in a mirror is not the same as a filtered image, and it’s crucial to be kind to ourselves about our appearance.

Social Media: A Double-Edged Sword

Social media can also be a powerful tool for marketing. Searcy and Charli discuss the importance of a digital presence for business promotion, even though it can sometimes feel awkward or uncomfortable. Despite the mixed reactions from others, promoting products and services through social media remains highly effective.
