Welcome back, Hype Squad!

In this week’s episode of The Hype Squad podcast, we shake things up with an unfiltered discussion about beauty standards, social media influence, and the growing popularity of cosmetic enhancements. Joined by Jasmine and Rachel, the HBICs of CMco, we’re diving into the heart of what it means to strive for beauty in the 21st century.

From Love Island to Real Life: First Impressions of Cosmetic Enhancements

Our conversation kicks off with a reflection on the UK’s Love Island and the shockingly mature appearances of its young contestants. Jasmine shares her experience seeing facial fillers in real life for the first time and how it made her reflect on the pervasive nature of these enhancements.

Jasmine:

“It was like the cast photos are one thing, but I watched the first episode and I was like, oh my gosh, like it looks just totally different.”

Age and Perspective: Different Views on Cosmetic Enhancements

We delve deeper into varying perspectives by revealing our ages. Rachel is about to turn 26, Jasmine is freshly 22, and Charli is 37. This range gives a diverse look at the beauty standards and pressures each age group faces.

Social Media and Celebrity Influence

The conversation naturally drifts to social media influencers and celebrities, particularly the Kardashians, who have set unprecedented beauty standards. We discuss how Kylie’s admissions about her own enhancements have influenced a generation.

Rachel:

“The visibility of them [celebrities] is just way different now. It’s like how the whole goal used to be to look younger, now it’s like, are you trying to look older?”

Adapting to a Beauty-First Culture

The pressures of maintaining a certain image are discussed in relation to personal upbringing and regional differences. Jasmine notes her surprise at the cosmetic trends she encountered upon moving from Maryland to the South.

Jasmine:

“Coming down here to college was the first time I felt like stuff like lip filler and spray tans were pushed on me.”

Body Image at a Young Age

We also reflect on the disturbing trend of young children, like Jasmine’s niece, feeling societal pressures about their looks. It’s a concerning issue that starts as early as seven years old.

Rachel:

“My niece was saying all these terrible things about herself at such a young age, comparing herself to her friends. It’s heartbreaking but it’s sad that it starts that young.”

Positive Affirmations and Self-Love

Throughout the conversation, we emphasize the importance of positive affirmations and the power of self-love.

Our candid conversation reveals that while the allure of cosmetic enhancements and social media influence can be strong, embracing natural beauty and self-love remains crucial. The varying perspectives on beauty standards from different age groups highlight the ongoing societal impact these trends have on our personal choices and self-esteem.

We encourage our readers and listeners to reflect on their own beauty journeys and consider what truly makes them feel confident and happy. Remember, beauty is multifaceted, and the most important aspect is feeling good in your own skin.

With so much love,

Charli
