EP:40 | Mary Grayson Nix Caden – "Unlocking Wellness: The Journey of Yoga and Resilience" – The Hype Squad
Welcome back, Hype Squad!
As I sat down to start another episode of The Hype Squad podcast, I felt a familiar thrill of excitement and nervousness. I knew today’s conversation would be special. Meeting new people and learning about their passions is always an enlightening experience, and today, I was looking forward to chatting with Mary Grayson Nix Caden – owner of Yogalete Auburn and The Yoga Room AU.
Mary Grayson’s story is inspiring in so many ways. It’s a tale of resilience, passion, and the relentless pursuit of inner peace. From her beginnings as a college soccer athlete to becoming a yoga studio owner, her journey is filled with powerful lessons that resonate deeply with many, including myself.
Beginnings and Transformation
Mary Grayson began her yoga journey in 2018 with her first yoga class at The Yoga Room (the same studio she now owns), seeking healing and strength following sports injuries. Now, with degrees in Physical Education and Exercise Science, and as a certified yoga teacher, she combines her educational expertise with her dedication to helping athletes through functional flows that blend mindfulness, breath-work, and movement.
Mary Grayson shares her transition from an athlete dealing with multiple injuries to someone who embraced yoga as a healing tool. “Yoga kind of opened my eyes to this new way of healing not just my body but my mind,” Mary Grayson said. It reminded me of the importance of being open-minded and trying new things, even when they seem daunting at first.
Owning a Business with No Business Background
Taking over The Yoga Room was a significant step in Mary Grayson’s life, especially since she didn’t come from a business background. Together, we dug into what it felt like to transition from being an integral part of a community to becoming one of its leaders. The learning curve was steep, yet Mary Grayson embraced it with optimism and courage.
I could relate to her story on so many levels. It reminded me of when I took the leap into areas I wasn’t fully qualified for on paper, and the huge personal growth that came from pushing through challenges. Mary Grayson’s candidness about her own insecurities and her drive to strengthen herself and those around her was refreshing and inspiring.
Persistence and Finding Resilience
Mary Grayson’s journey also highlighted how yoga taught her to find resilience. “It’s not about what’s happening to you, but it’s about how you kind of pull yourself up and how you respond to it,” she mentioned. This approach not only helped her after suffering numerous concussions but also guided her through life’s continuous ups and downs.
Listening to Mary Grayson discuss her methods of navigating life’s hurdles was a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit. It’s easy to become overwhelmed, but it’s crucial to remember resilience is a muscle we build over time.
Contributing to Community Beyond Yoga
Yogalete was created as a space for Mary Grayson to continue teaching Auburn University athletes post-graduation. It offers her an avenue to work with Auburn sports – something deeply rooted in her life. Teaching athletes isn’t just about movement for Mary Grayson, but also about mentally uplifting them.
“I try to layer in motivation and things to think about to better yourself as a person, better yourself as an athlete,” she explained. It’s not just about the physical aspect but nurturing the entire being, an ethos that is genuinely transformative.
A Personal Celebration of Growth
Reflecting on her past and how far she has come, Mary Grayson expressed pride in her journey and the person she’s become. “I think what I’m proud of is just everything coming full circle,” she shared, noting the power of being able to rise, build resilience, and continue doing what she loves despite facing adversities.
Mary Grayson’s wisdom taught me more ways to engage with self-growth actively and deliberately. Her story exemplifies the profound impacts of self-kindness and consistent effort.
I left our interview feeling uplifted, and I hope you feel the same through her story. Whether you’re looking for a new passion, a way to cope with personal challenges, or a sense of community, there’s something in Mary Grayson’s story for you.
Thank you, Mary Grayson, for sharing your remarkable journey with The Hype Squad. Your story reaffirms the power of passion and perseverance.
Be kind to yourselves. Until next time!
With so much love,
Charli
